The set arrived on time, in a “box in a box” that protected it well from the shipping process.Quality: I examined all the chessmen and the board (both inside and outside). I did not find any chips, cracks, dings, or similar defects. The brass hinges and closure snaps are aligned perfectly. The little magnetic surface on the bottom of each chessman was on center or close to it.The magnetic board is magnetic enough to hold the pieces in place if you set them up and then turn the board upside down.Aesthetics: It’s a good looking set in an abstract version of the classic Staunton pattern, though not identical to it. Not an artistic production, however – if you want a beautiful set that will attract comment on display, look elsewhere.5 stars for use at home, indoors or outdoors; 4 stars for travel, as it is a little too large for a travel set IMO, and has sharp corners. Certainly it would make an excellent gift for the chess player in your life.

Updated: Nice chess set, but some pieces came damaged.
This set looks quite nice. Came packaged very well from manufacturer. That gave me hope that it would be quite nice. Once I opened it, I saw pieces scattered around the inside. Two of the dark pawns were not right. One had its magnetic bottom completely out. The other is not sitting straight due to the magnet not fitting correctly.I want to give this 5 stars. Seems like a good product for the price. However, the lack of quality control is evident. Hoping they will be able to send me replacement pieces. No easy way to contact the Supplier through Amazon.*Update: the seller contacted me and made it right. Initiated a full refund and let me keep the original board. More than fair. They said they are addressing Quality Control Issues. Would certainly buy from them again.

Don’t buy for the magnet or the felt
Don’t buy this for the magnet or the felt. The magnets aren’t even strong enough to keep the pieces from sliding off the board at an angle. I felt is poorly stuck on the bottom and will likely peel off within a few uses. I’m considering returning this but I’m not sure how much of the cost I should attribute to the magnet gimmick.

The media could not be loaded.
This is a good set and the pieces are well cushioned. It’s a full size board. The magnets are weak and the larger pieces will fall right off the board if you fold it, which is a shame. It’s almost perfect. Decent value, but we like carrying around the chess board and as it does not lock into place when extended and the pieces fall off, it’s not a five star.

This set is fine for the price. I did not have the same experience as others wo left negative reviews, meaning the pieces hold to the board adequately for my purposes. I’m not playing in high winds or on the slope of a roof. I could identify no foul smell from the interior foam.Good set.

The magnetic pieces are a game changer when playing with kids. You can move the board or keep playing after a minor tantrum without pieces moving. Inside of board also has cutouts for each piece, so you know right away if any are missing.

Nice Portable Magnetic Chess Board
This is a beautiful chess board with magnetic wooden pieces! It’s the nicest one I’ve ever owned. The board folds in half and clasps securely closed. There are foam sections to keep each piece in place so they don’t rattle around while traveling. There are two extra queens for when you get to promote your pawn. The board is quite large but slim in profile, and great for travel and storage.I had to leave my old chess board behind in my recent move and this replacement is a definite upgrade! The pieces are made of wood, the board is smooth, and the magnetic force of the pieces is strong. I absolutely love it! The quality is very good and it’s well worth the price. If you play chess this one is great for beginners and advanced players alike.

Great looking set. Durable. Nice finish
This was a gift for our daughter. She took up playing chess recently. This is a great set. It is well crafted and looks very nice. The magnetic aspect is a bonus and worked well. The pieces themselves are well made. The castles had a little chaff in the ridges but that was easily fixed with a small file. The felt on the bottom of each piece was well attached. The top of the board is a little weak as the wood is not the most dense and can easily show scrapes or scratches if you are not careful. Overall I recommend the set and would order again if this one ever gets broken.

Purchased two for christmas. One as a gift and one for us to use at home. We use it almost ever day. The magnets work great, the pieces are solid. The felt on the bottom of the pieces don’t scratch up the board.It would be better if they had felt or pads on the inner seam of the board when closed/on the bottom of the board when open, so that when you rotate the board to change players, it doesn’t scratch the table. But since that’s not a feature of the game, I won’t subtract from your rating.

My son loves this set
My son purchase this set with his own money and we are pleasantly surprised at its quality. Lots of reviews mentioned the magnets weren’t strong, but we’ve found them to be quite strong and very functional. The pieces feel high quality. The board is well made. The molded storage compartments hold the pieces well when not in use. I recommend this set for anyone looking for a quality beautiful set that doesn’t cost a ton.

Magnetic Chess Board
My children and I are big chess fans however we have a lot of animals that always try to jump on our laps while we play AND my son is very “clumsy” and “accidently” knocks over our pieces when we play.. (side eye) For Christmas we got this magnetic chess board and problem solved! It’s great for travel and for home! Nice quality for the price! Recommend!

Sadly disappointed; HOWEVER, EXCEPTIONAL customer service
I opened the box and was really excited because the construction of the board felt very nice. But when I opened the box, I immediately noticed that the pieces were not cut correctly. One of the pieces seems to have a moldy bottom. All the knight pieces had issues with the eyes portion of the design.The reason for the two star is because of the construction of the pieces. Everything else about the board would’ve been perfect.**Edit**After providing a review as well as submitting for a replacement, Anivia messaged me immediately in regards to the poor craftsmanship. She made the whole process hassle free. I gave Vahome 3 chances to get the chess pieces corrected. Each time, there were still some minor issues with the knight pieces. However, Anivia was able to provide me a solution that I was content with.I am giving the additional 2 stars to their customer service and truly following their 12 month -100% satisfaction guarantee promise. When the pieces come in properly, the chess piece is a very nice budget option.Thanks again for some great customer service.

Beautiful and well made
The media could not be loaded.
This is a classic chess board that shows quality and workmanship.I wanted to buy a chess board that can last torture of my kids. Or in other words is less hassle to store and play.It’s magnetic so even when my youngest one tries to lock down some set to disturb me while playing, he now cannot succeed!Plus the inbuilt storage is functional and fun- fun because even my toddler wants to help with the cleanup to arrange those pieces.Enjoy this beautiful game with this set! Worth gifting to anyone who likes chess

Very happy grandson
“OK, but I’ll get you a cheap one,” I told my grandson when he asked for a chess set. I’d never seen him play, so I was dubious. Also, the new puppy chewed up the remote control and a library book.But I couldn’t resist this and the price looked great for a latched wooden board with magnetized pieces. Great board for price
Pieces are made great, and it is magnetic. If it’s 100% tilted the pieces will move, but they’ll stay in place if you accidentally hit the table or something. I also like the foam inserts to put the pieces in.

Magnets aren’t as strong as the picture shows
The magnets in mine are ok when the board is flat, but if I turn the board on its side the pieces do not stay in place. They slide off. The pictures in the ad showing them staying in place are wrong, or at least misleading. Otherwise the set is fine and what I expected. I will just have to be a little careful if I move it.

Great Chess Game
Our daughter gifted this to her brother for Christmas and already it is MUCH better than any other chess board we have ever owned. The HIGHLIGHT is that it is magnetic so if someone accidentally shakes the board it doesn’t matter! All the pieces stay in place! Not to mention it has storage for the pieces! Great purchase!

Overall good Product

Ease of Use. All good and well made except the smaller pieces felt little smaller in my hand. But I its for my daughter so sould not nlbe any issue.

Top Notch Chess Board
Bought this for my 11 year old grandson. He loves it! Everything is self-contained. It’s large and so well made. Magnets keep the chess pieces in place on the board. The inside is lined well & easily stores the pieces. It’s a great gift to keep for years. It comes in a solid cardboard box to store the board handily.

Wonderful!
I got this for my son. I love how it’s its own storage case. It comes with a foam insert that has a perfect slot for each piece. Which makes it easy to see what pieces you’re missing. Quality of the material is amazing for being less than $50. Definitely a good buy for anyone who is newly interested in chess!

Just what I wanted!!
Love this Chess set!! I wanted it for my family and I. Re-learning the game and teaching my kids how to play. The design is great. It’s portable and compact. Strong magnets keep all of the pieces in place. A highly recommended purchase.
